I would die to hear the Star Wars saga in Mandarin…particularly the characters with unique dialects like Yoda, Watto and Jar Jar Binks. Could their peculiarities be readily translated into Chinese?

It should be possible to get good copies of the Star Wars films. The tricky thing is finding the ones with Chinese sound tracks, instead of just subtitles. Should be some though - they had a major Chinese-language launch of the third film and I remember seeing Yoda t-shirts in the department stores in Beijing.

I think this is a great feature. Definitely do more movie clips like this.

This experimental feature about movies dubbed in chinese is a good idea but you could have selected a part with a more simple dialog. I didn’t even get 50% of this one.

It’s amazing what audio editing can do, kmk. The Chinese in the next recording is actually a bit harder, but we’ll put together some easier ones next time we hit the studio.

Regarding difficulty: I experienced the Star Trek part as easier than most of your movie excerps on the forum. But maybe that is because I know what it is about…

When I make a video-clip from a DVD, it’s because there’s some difficulty, interesting point or good humour. Most of the time I need to use the subtitles to understand perfectly the audio.
Subtitles are a key factor in the way I learn with video.
When I first watch the video, I need to see the subtitles but after that stage I should visualize (in my head) the characters just by the sound and melody.
BTW, a new wave of clips will come soon on the forum after my comparative study of Pocahontas yesterday.

Art Kho, I can recorded the audio for “I’ll be back” for my DVD, of course it’s not actually Arnie. In T2 the audio is “我马上回来”, but it’s subtitles as 我会回来.
