What heppened to the video link for this show? I’m off to U tube to see if it is there!

Shame about SYDNEY !! Could not handle the full strength beer in Australia?? playing ganbie with MOLLOY??

Jenny lets get your Australian tour underway start planning now. Poddies unite!!

You guys should maybe consider using something more underground rather than youtube so stuff like that won’t happen again. I don’t want to just plug something though (Veoh is a great alternative). Just an idea if you ever get fed up with the youtube hounds. It’s unreasonable that a performance of a cover song was taken down, especially since there are countless others that have been on youtube for ages. that’s youtube for you.

Texas meetup? Details! Chances are good I can be there!

  4. 4 Rich from Iowa...err..Ohio...err...IDAHO! May 12th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

First, now I don’tknow what to think of Aric now that he seems to not even know where Idaho is??!! More than 50 states??? Oh well, at least he didn’t think it was Ohio or Iowa like most do. Got to excuse our geography and such… so I forgive him (yet I think my rating of the Saturday show went down a notch….like from 10 to 9.99999 ha ha)

Second, wow… I was mentioned on the Greatest Saturday Show in the World…whee! I’ve had my 30 seconds of famous. I can die now…or better not (do they have Saturday show in Heaven?). Thanks Jenny. Yet I think she almost forgot to mention my name… ha ha…Idaho and then Uno became the highlight of the discussion.

It was funny, as I watched this Friday morning China time (didn’t even think about finding it, but I was uploading stuff to YouTube and came up on my list), I wondered what that little box to Jenny’s right was. I was thinking “Could that be the Uno game I gave here? Naaa…”

And it was “Barbie” Uno just because she mentioned how she had Barbie stickers on her laptop not too long ago (why I had Barbie Uno to give is something you can’t ask.. heh). So you Americans there at CP (yes, we American’s did make it better…but still don’t know our own states), teach Jenny how to play already!

Oh, and here is a picture of Jenny, John and I. (and yes, Jenny is sweet as they say, and John was as tall [and cool]): http://www.richmahn.com/shanghai/rich_jenny_john.jpg

(if neither the links above work, just click on my name at the top)

I really enjoy The Saturday Show, though you guys need to focus a little (just a little, don’t ruin the ambiance). The Nanjing based female singer mentioned on today’s (12/5) show has a very interesting voice. I’d like to find out more about her, but none of you mention her name. Does she currently have any recording on the market?

早大家!bonjour tout le monde ! DJ Flaneur is a great addition. “Flaneur” is a beautiful name. “Flaner” in french is to walk without a particular goal in mind. A “Flaneur” is someone who does this. I think “stroll” is about as close as we can come to this in english: J’aime passer le matin en flanant à Paris. 我早上喜欢在巴黎走走。

The international flavor of this show hosted in 上海 is one of many things that brings our world closer together. I sense that from its heart center emanates a desire for world peace.

    再见,

    Bill

    Aric,

Wang Kar-Wai film “My Blueberry Nights” Update:

Wang Kar Wai directed his first English language film as mentioned in the Saturday Show. While people in the US probably won’t see this until 2008, it’s scheduled to be released in Europe in the fall.

The most notable thing about this film is that is has been selected to open the 2007 Cannes Film Festival next week. That’s a huge honor in the industry. On the flip-side, the Weinstein Brothers are releasing this film in the US which means it’ll probably be mangled to 30 minutes shorter than the director’s edit, open in less than a dozen theaters and go straight to DVD. The Weinsteins are great because they fund and distribute Asian films but notoriously hack through the edit like a surgeon with a chainsaw, to make it more ‘appealing’ to American audiences. Look forward to the response from Cannes in a few days.

Aric, one of the huge reasons Wang Kar Wai makes such stunning movies is because he has the best cinematogrpher in the world, Christopher Doyle. Doyle is Austrailian and from what I’ve heard, took on Chinese names to get work in Hong Kong Cinema… Ke Fung Du & Ho Fung To. He’s the master responsible for the small lens/washed out colored visuals of “Fallen Angels” and the opposite end of the spectrum, grand color-scapes of “Heroes”. He also shot “2046″.

Wang Kar Wai didn’t team with Doyle for Blueberry Nights. But he did get David Fincher’s go-to Director of Photography, Darius Khondji, the Iranian who did Seven, Panic Room and Delicatessen. He’s probably one of the closest DPs to Christopher Doyle in the use of color and soft light. It will be interesting to see how My Blueberry Nights turns out.

    Rich,

Hey, at least I knew about “America’s secret state,” Idaho… :)
It was fun meeting you too, and I’ll definitely make sure Jenny puts those Uno cards to good use next week! (She’s going to feel my Wild Draw Four fury, no doubt about it!)

So… when are we going to hear from the Aussies about the Aric-less CPod meetup? How was it? Do they hate Aric now, or have they found it in their hearts to forgive him??

  9. 9 金平 Tsin_Ping May 13th, 2007 at 10:48 am

Great Saturday Show again, guys, as usual…

Aric, I thought you like girls to replace Colleen?? :)

Oh, I just love Jenny translating English words to Chinese… Maybe you can have a segment in TSS where Jenny translates some hot and latest movies (preferrably Hollywood) to English! That’ll be a boost up for the TSS!!

Oh, I love those UNO games! They’re so fun… yet irritating to win! (Yeah, UNO made me angry once! :) ) But nothing beats the original UNO! You know, the UNO Stacko!

Southeast Asia is the best sub-region in Asia (Sorry, East Asia) :) Hehehe… Aric, try the Philippines! :)

    L.L. ChinesePod!!! :)
PS, oh, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY EVERYBODY!!!

The Nanjing girl (whats her name?) has a beautiful voice and appearance. *sigh*

Keep us updated on how that album goes!

Too bad you guys can’t add an additional 10 minutes at least . . the pace of these shows can get pretty frenetic at times!

I’m half expecting you guys to start jumping off the walls trying to get everything in before the clock finishes.

    John,

Not possible to hate Aric, I haven’t even met the guy! We did spend an inordinate amount of time sitting at a pub by the beach worrying about the fate of someone we didn’t even know. But speaking for myself, I hate a great time anyway. As long as Aric isn’t in prison, I can sleep easy. :)

    Uggh, typos!

I HAD a great time. I do not hate a great time.

Another great Saturday Show. We get Aric (in NYC, USA) and
Sydney gets the honor of Jenny for the meetup. Somehow, I don’t think that’s a good and even exchange. And yes, Aric, New York is a State and also a City in the USA. Except here in New York City, we are so good they had to name it twice. When and where can one get more information on the meetup? Aric, NYC is a big city with lots to do and also lots of jails, lol, don’t get lost for the meetup.

    Another wonderful Saturday show :)

Pierre, Aric: that singer’s voice mimicks Sarah McLachlan, have you heard her? They both have that high pitched falsetto they weave into their singing.

  15. 15 SWB May 14th, 2007 at 5:44 am

I have never commented on here before…preferring to lurk, I guess:)

But, WOW, I felt like it sort of needs to be said.

Aric, after reading the excitment in previous posts about the Sydney meet-up (and the chance to meet you), the “sorry guys, I was too busy partying (or hungover) to meet up and/or let anyone know” seems rather rude and immature.

Perhaps, there is more to this story…but as of what is known, it sounds like you need to show a little more appreciation to your TSS fans and listeners.

Aric is forgiven if he pays for Jenny’s flight to Sydney.

Cooggee isn’t hard for me to get to, and it was a lovely afternoon. Would have been nice to meet Aric. Still, a good opportunity to meet others from the ChinesePod community.

Looking forward to a meet up with Jenny!

    Hi-

The rss entry is missing the enclosure tag, which means it didn’t get automatically downloaded by my podcast receiver. I just wanted to point it out, in case it was an oversight related to the V3 upgrade.

I’d really want this employee’s benefit in place:
for every 100 lessons a cpod host does, she/he will be entitled to a fully paid-for meetup anywhere in the world.
So far, I’ve accumulated enough points for 5 destinations!!

  19. 19 BadBoyz May 15th, 2007 at 4:21 am

    Jenny,

I’m sure if you announce where you want to hold a meetup, there will be lots of volunteers to contribute to your travel expenses. There are a lot of us here that have accumulated lots of airline miles. Aric, could fly First Class to Beijing, maybe we could arrange to get you on a Business Class round trip to NYC. At least we know you’ll show for a planned meetup.

I’ve manually added the chinesepod extra podcast feed to itunes, but I don’t seem to be getting any episodes past 47. Is it just me or is it just completely broken? Any chance that the saturday show can go back to being the highlight of the main chinesepod feed until whatever is wrong on this one is fixed? Honestly, chinesepod has been rather boring without the saturday show to mix things up a bit. Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?
